Research Focus: Elucidating the biophysical explanations for the information-processing and storage capabilities of single neurons and small neuronal networks.

In the Magee lab, our ultimate goal is to provide a mechanistic understanding of the behaviorally relevant brain function. To this end we are attempting to produce biophysical explanations of the information-processing and storage capabilities of single and small networks of neurons. We use a variety of optical (two-photon transmitter uncaging, single and two-photon ChR2/NpHR activation, two photon Ca2+ imaging) and electrical (dual whole-cell recordings, cell-attached and outside-out patches) techniques in the various projects.
