Dr. Sillitoe receives the 2016 Outstanding Educator Award

Dr. Roy Sillitoe, assistant professor at the Baylor College of Medicine and investigator at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute received the 2016 Outstanding Educator Award at Baylor’s 26th annual Rush and Helen Record Neuroscience Forum. 

The Annual Rush and Helen Record Neuroscience Forum is made possible through a generous gift from friends of Rush and Helen Record.

Rush Record, a prominent lawyer and a staunch neuroscience advocate and his wife, Helen were the driving forces behind this annual retreat, which allows department members to learn about each other’s research accomplishments, and provides opportunities for future collaborations.

Dr. Sillitoe combines molecular genetics, neuroanatomical tract tracing, biochemistry, and imaging to investigate the developmental origins of disorders that affect circuit formation. He is particularly interested in establishing a wiring diagram for brain circuit map alterations in mouse models of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, hereditary ataxia, and dystonia. 

Every year Neuroscience graduate students nominate and vote for a professor who has had the most impact on them in terms of teaching and education. This year Drs. Sillitoe was one of the two faculty members elected to receive the Top Educators Award.
