Dr. Zoghbi to receive the 2015 Vanderbilt Prize for Biomedical Science

Vanderbilty Univeristy School of Medicine has announced that Dr. Huda Zoghbi, director of the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children's Hospital, will be the 2015 recipient of the Vanderbilt Prize for Biomedical Science.

Established in 2006, the prize honors women scientists with "stellar record" of research accomplishments, and who have made significant contributions to mentoring other women in science.

Prize winners receive an honororium, deliver a Flexner Discovery Lecture, meet with Vanderbilt faculty and mentor Vanbilt Prize scholars - women who are pursuing graduate studies in biomedical science at Vanderbilt medical school.

Dr. Zoghbi is also a professor in the Departments of Molecular and Human Genetics at the Baylor College of Medicine, an Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellow, member of the Institute of Medicine and a fellow of the National Academy of Science. 

She has led pioneering basic research in various neurological diseases like Rett syndrome, spinocerebellar ataxia and deafness, many of which have proved to have important clinical implications.

Dr. Zoghbi is the 10th recipient of this prestigious award and receive it in April 2016.
