
NRI researcher, Dr. Akash Patel, receives Christopher Getch Fellowship
NRI researcher, Dr. Akash Patel, assistant professor of neurosurgery, was selected by the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Fellowships Committee to receive the 2015-2016 Christopher. R Getch Fellowship Award, which provides $100,000 for advanced training and is granted to a neurosurgeon or fellow engaged in clinical research that promises to significantly impact the field of neurosurgery. The award will be presented at the CNS Annual Meeting in September 2015.

Dr. Patel is a neurosurgeon who specializes in the treatment of both malignant and benign tumors of the brain and skull base. His research focuses on determining the molecular underpinnings of inherited and sporadic forms of various brain tumors in an effort to develop targeted therapies to treat aggressive cases.
